WOMEN’S ELECTION IN TURKEY

The legal arrangements made in this regard  is one of the most important developments made in  the social sphere in the Republic of Turkey and conducted before many European countries. The recognition of woman’s right to vote and stand for election was given in 1946 in France and Italy  and in 1971 in Switzerland.
By virtue of efforts spent by Atatürk towards the active participation of women in  economic and political life, the women had been granted voting right in municipal elections in 1930;  voting right in election of local administration and stand for election in the village board elections; finally voting right and stand for election in the elections of member of parliament due to revisions made in  Constitution on December 5 1934.
